One of the biggest challenges every laptop repair business owner faces is reducing costs, well I should say every business owner faces. I got a couple of mates talking about whether repairs should be outsourced or whether engineers should be employed and kept full time whilst keeping all repairs in house. Yes, there are many overheads when having in house engineers, you need to pay for their salary, space, tools, parts etc. Whereas outsourcing your laptops to a trade laptop repair company could reduce the costs, however it does take a portion of your profits out. You might ask yourself where do I find a company which provides laptop repairs for cheap. Well there is one big name on the market and I know many companies who have been using them for years. Trade Laptop Repair are the only one I know of. However if you have enough laptops to repair you can always repair them in house as this gives you the whole control of the process and you know better about what your business does. I never see the point of outsourcing laptops to get them repaired, if you don’t know how to repair them, then unfortunately you shouldn’t be providing the service. I’m a true believer in providing good customer service, doing whatever it takes to satisfy a customer is a must.
Outsourcing laptop repairs can save a whole lot of time and the idea of outsourcing is becoming much more known. Many companies used in house IT people to manage their systems and then they find out that they can outsource their IT dept and save money. It’s the same principal of work. Me on the other hand, I like to keep all my repairs in house as I find it much more better to organize and have control. I’m not slagging other computer repair companies, but hey if money is everything the lets outsource!.

If you don’t own a common laptop then you might get stuck when it comes to finding a laptop part. Many Sony Vaio laptop parts are quite hard to find and almost every Sony Vaio laptop has a PCG and a VGN number, this make things more confusing. However if you follow this simple guide and I will show you how to source the exact same replacement laptop part for your Sony Vaio. You would think that Sony parts may cost a lot however that’s not true as there is a huge marketplace for used and spare laptop parts, you simply have to look in the right places using the right tools.
In this article I’m going show you how to find Sony Vaio laptop parts and where to find them.
First we start with your laptop, note down the PCG and the VGN number. The VGN can be found just above the keyboard and the PCG number can be found underneath the laptop. Ok next what you do is look at your old laptop part and look for a white sticker which has a set of number and letters. Note these down carefully. Go on to Google and type in the laptop part number you noted, now you will see many websites selling the parts. However most of them are not UK ones, so what you need to do is filter your search options in Google to only UK pages. This will now show you all the companies in the UK that have your laptop part. Simply browse through them and find the cheapest. Simple!
Ok what happens if you don’t have a white sticker on our laptop part or you simply don’t have the old Sony Vaio laptop part with you? Not to worry, this is where your PCG and VNG model number comes handy. Get onto eBay and type in “Sony Vaio (VGN-MODELNUMBER)”, the “MODELNUMBER” should be filled with your laptop VGN number. This will show you all products to do with your laptop model. From here you can either add the part your looking for e.g. Sony Vaio VGN-AR61 Keyboard and search for it or type in the actual part number if you have one.
See finding a Sony Vaio laptop part is not that hard at all. Use Google, eBay and your laptop and you will find the right part for your Sony. However if you haven’t managed to find the laptop part for your Sony Vaio here are a few resources which you can try.

There are many reasons why one would have to replace their laptop keyboard. Maybe you have some keys missing or you’ve spilt something on your keyboard or your laptop keyboard isn’t simply working the way it should. Replacing a laptop keyboard is quite easy to do frankly speaking. All you need is a set of small screwdrivers and a steady hand. Many laptops have different ways to remove the keyboard, generally there is a very common way on most laptops to do so. Open your laptop lid and look at the top upper casing above your keyboard. If you look carefully you will notice that there is a gap between the top part of the keyboard and the casing. This long plastic casing should simply come off if you peel from the side of the laptop. DO NOT apply too much force, if you feel it will break then there may be 2 or more screws holding it down. To get to these screws you have to turn your laptop upside down and look for screw holes which run parallel with the upper keyboard casing. At this point it’s a also wise to remove your laptop battery as well. Once the screws have been removed the upper casing of the keyboard should come off with ease. The casing is clipped down and only requires slight pressure using a flat head screwdriver from the side to push it up.
Now the top plastic casing has been removed you should see two or more screws holding the keyboard down. Unscrew and the keyboard should lift slightly up. Now be very careful here as there is a cable underneath the keyboard which connects to the motherboard. Once the screws are removed, tilt the keyboard up from the screws side and you will see the cable connection beneath. Gently push the cable away from the motherboard, this doesn’t require any force. On some laptops the motherboard connectors which connect to the keyboard have sometimes got small clips which hold the keyboard cable in place. If this is the case, just push the plastic clips up and remove the cable. Now that the keyboard is removed it’s time to source a new one if needed. However at this point we generally give the keyboard connector a good clean and push it back in firmly into the connector. This can help with keyboard problems you might have. If it doesn’t work then you need to find a new laptop keyboard replacement.
Finding a Laptop Keyboard
Now that you have removed your laptop keyboard the next thing is to find the exact same one. This is the easiest task, look at the back of your keyboard and you will notice a set of unique numbers or letters. One of these will start with the letters KB or AB or AR followed by numbers and letters. This number is the manufacture part number. Using the part number go to Google or Ebay and type in the part number and you will find many of the same laptop keyboards for sale. Simply order and wait for it to arrive. Once you have your new laptop keyboard you will now need to install it. All you do is push in the cable behind the keyboard into the motherboard connection of the previous one and screw down the keyboard in it’s respective holes. Put the top plastic casing back together to finish. Done, there is no need for drivers install or any settings to change. Just turn on your laptop and test your new keyboard.
There you have it, now you know how to replace your laptop keyboard.

I thought I would just clear up something here. People often get confused between a netbook and a laptop. This post outlines the key differences between the two. Frankly speaking there is a huge difference in terms of price. Here at Laptop Repair Company we are often told by customers that they can buy a brand new laptop for £200. That’s not true. Firstly, yes you can buy something that looks like a laptop for £200, but trust me it’s no where like a laptop. These £100 to £300 machines are netbooks and not laptops. The difference is the following:
Laptop size – Netbooks are really small, they have a small screen.
Laptop performance – Netbooks have a much smaller CPU.
Price – Netbooks are cheaper as you don’t really get as much as you would for your money if you were to buy a laptop.
Also you will notice the memory, hard drive and CPU speed are much slower than your average Dual Core 2 laptop. A decent laptop can cost you anywhere from £400 to £2000. Laptops are completely different to netbooks in every way. However the market seems to be changing as laptops are getting smaller and more thin, everything seems to be going down the netbook road. If you’re looking to buy a laptop or netbook anytime soon, first analyze your requirements on what you’re going to use it for. Netbooks are good if your on the move constantly and just require the internet, yes you can get away with small documents files as well. But just forget it if you’re looking to run Adobe photoshop etc.
So there you have it, now you know the key differences between a netbook and a laptop. If you want to know whether a machine is a laptop or a netbook, just pay attention to it’s size and price.
